Our Future

We focus our energy on entertainment, gossip, and things that are non-essential; however keeping us entertained for the moment. What's happening with our teens? From teen pregnancy to sexually transmitted diseases. Being a mother at 17 myself, a young lady still with a baby mentality,  what did I know about having a child? Not at thing, because I was never educated. When did having unprotected sex become a trending topic? Is today's society just continuing to follow in the footsteps of our generations, with not being able to get to the core of the realistic matters at hand, our children. Being from a big city, you see alot, hear alot, there are more opportunities in NY than any other city, which 9 out of 10 times we fail to take.

But when did the club mean more, or a relationship, or your well being? When did people just stop caring about the future of their roots. As I was riding through my new home, Houston, I wondered how old were these young girls that I seen with these babies? To find out, statistically as of September 2009, more girls under 15 gave birth in Houston than any other U.S. city, according to a new national report, and many of the city's teen moms have additional children before they turn 20. How? Why?

Now don't get me wrong, children are the most beautiful creation man kind has ever made, and they are our future; our blood-line. In all reality, its a struggle, at a young age we loose ourselves, still want the things that we were accustomed to having; freedom. I can't remember a time that I didn't get dressed and just walked to the store alone. In a glimpse, having my children grounded me, but also my thought of mind stopped me from being the lawyer I dreamed about being since I was a little girl. Our options are limited, because its a struggle, with childcare, no support, no education, and just a job, we have little to offer. In my high school days, we had no sex education, and looking at today, it seems that our school system continues to keep failing our children. It's time to put our foot on more than just a dance floor. If this is an alternative, because I believe you supporting your children is very important, what options do they have? Can they continue education? Parenting classes? Counseling? Will they have the resources to still be a child, and yet still have one of their own....
